Sudden Loss Care Team (SLCT)

When a suicide happens, life can feel like it stops — but somehow the world keeps moving, and you’re expected to make decisions, answer questions, and “handle” things you never asked to carry.

The Sudden Loss Care Team (SLCT) is here to offer support after a suicide loss — with compassion, care, and practical help — so you don’t have to navigate those first days alone.

What SLCT offers

SLCT provides no-cost, confidential support to individuals and families after a suicide death. Our team may include loss survivors, clinicians, and retired first responders, all trained to show up with care and without judgment.

We can help by:

  • Listening and providing steady, compassionate support
  • Sharing local resources and explaining next steps (at your pace)
  • Connecting you to survivor support groups, one-on-one support, and other services
  • Offering follow-up contact if and when you want it

How someone gets connected to SLCT

There are several ways SLCT can be activated — whatever feels easiest in the moment:

  • A first responder may tell you about SLCT and leave you a card with our contact information
  • You can reach out to us directly when you’re ready
  • A friend, family member, or support person can reach out for you (with your permission)

You don’t have to know exactly what you need to reach out. That’s our job — to meet you where you are.

What SLCT is (and is not)

SLCT is:

  • Warm, supportive, and practical
  • Confidential
  • No cost
  • Based on your needs, your timing, and your preferences

SLCT is not:

  • Emergency response or crisis intervention
  • A replacement for counseling or therapy
  • A law enforcement service

If you are in immediate danger or need urgent help, call 911.

You are not alone

There is support. There is hope. And it’s okay to take this one step at a time.
